Designed for beginning teachers, this innovative program combines graduate coursework with a yearlong teaching assignment in a Springfield, Massachusetts, public school. Build a comprehensive background in current teaching methodologies — then give meaning and dimension to your education through hands-on practice in a carefully structured framework, backed by the thoughtful mentoring of our master teachers. Program Details Prerequisites: - The program accepts graduating college seniors and college graduates with baccalaureate degrees in mathematics, chemistry, biology, earth science, general science, physics, history, political science, or English, or equivalent coursework.
- Applicants should have a desire to work in an urban setting.
- It is highly recommended that applicants pass the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL) examination in Communications and Literacy and in the desired content area before applying.
- Career changers are encouraged to apply.
Schedule: August to the end of the public school academic year. Practice component: One year of teaching in an urban middle or high school. Program partners: Central High School, Chestnut Accelerated Middle School, Duggan Middle School, and the Springfield Renaissance Expeditionary Learning School Licensure: Preparation for Massachusetts Initial Licensure (reciprocal in 46 states). Fees: The cost of courses is $335 per credit. In addition there is a $45 per term registration fee.
