This course provides a solid foundation for understanding the history and development of the carbon markets as they exist today, and their potential for mitigating climate change and related regulatory and business specific risks. It provides an understanding of the market-based incentives for participation, and the carbon market's potential to offer excess returns while facilitating progress toward the development of clean energy technologies. Yet, it also explores existing and potential inefficiencies within existing carbon markets that may allow for unethical exploitation that is detrimental to the goal of climate change mitigation.

- The second module covers allowances and project-based markets in more detail.
- The third course module is focused on the voluntary & secondary carbon markets, and also examines the
potential post-2012 Kyoto framework.
