Managed futures (e.g., Commodity Trading Advisors or CTAs) have grown to over $150 billion in assets and are increasingly becoming a fundamental part of investors' portfolios. In this course, the return and risk characteristics of managed futures strategies are reviewed. Results show that traditional market factors have little correlation with CTA returns and that CTAs may provide unique return and risk opportunities both as standalone investments as well as additions to portfolios comprised principally of traditional stock and bond investments as well as traditional alternatives such as private equity, real estate, commodities and hedge funds. The expected correlation relationships of various CTA strategies with a range of market factors including momentum factors are explored as well as the ability of multi-factor regressions to explain CTA returns.
All materials are included within this onine course: the INGARM publication with downloadable charts and graphs as well as links to additional resources. There are no prerequisites; however a basic of understanding of elementary statistics is beneficial. This two hour self-study course will be open for enrollment on a continuous basis, but must be completed before the ending date of the course section chosen to best meet your needs.
