General Business Studies Certificate


Isenberg’s General Business Studies Certificate will give you a foundation in business, accounting, finance, marketing and management. Excel in any field by advancing your business prowess in just five classes. Learn from experts—the same faculty who teach on campus—who will introduce you to the business world. Earn your Certificate online—the program is flexible enough to fit your needs and rigorous enough to make you competitive.

Program Details

To satisfy the requirements for earning a General Business Studies Certificate, students take 5 classes for a total of 15 credit hours.

  • Fundamentals of Marketing: MARKETNG 301
  • Introduction to Accounting I: ACCOUNTG 221
  • Principles of Management: MANAGMNT 301
  • Corporation Finance: FINANCE 301
  • Elective of your choice. Choose from any Isenberg School of Management online course. Select from Accounting, Finance, Hospitality & Tourism Management, Marketing, Operations & Information Management or Sport Management courses. (Must meet the required pre-requisites.)

Certificate requirements: The certificate is awarded to students completing the required courses with passing grades in each course (a combined minimum grade point average of 2.0 on a scale of 4.0). All courses must be taken through UMass Amherst.


Certificate classes are $525 per credit, or $1,575 per course. There is an additional nonrefundable registration fee of $47 each term. Fees are the same for in-state, out-of-state and non-U.S. students.


Applicants must have completed 24 credits of college level course work or 2 years of relevant industry experience. The application can be found here and is accepted on a rolling basis. Before you apply or while your application is being processed, you have the option to try a class.
