Meeting & Event Management Certificate


From examining details with a fine-toothed comb to evaluating the bigger picture, the Isenberg Certificate in Meeting and Event Management prepares students to handle events large and small. Students are taught by experts in the industry about how to choose appropriate meeting sites, plan pre-event publicity, coordinate audio-visual aids and banquet service, and negotiate contracts. You can become an expert in the event planning field with first five classes.

Program Details

Required Curriculum: A total of 15 credits in five courses (3 credits per course) are required. Students may also take courses without pursuing the certificate. Class pre-requisites will be waived for students in the certificate program.

  • HT-MGT 260    Human Resource Management in the Hospitality Industry
  • HT-MGT 332    Convention Sales Management or HT-MGT 336 Club Management 
  • HT-MGT 334    Special Events Management
  • HT-MGT 337    Meeting, Convention and Exposition Management

Certificate requirements: The certificate is awarded to students completing the required courses with passing grades in each course (a combined minimum grade point average of 2.0 on a scale of 4.0). All courses must be taken through UMass Amherst.


See class descriptions for fees. In addition, there is a $47 nonrefundable registration fee per semester. Fees are the same for in-state, out-of-state and non-U.S. students.


Applicants must have completed 24 credits of college level course work or 2 years of relevant industry experience. The HTM certificate application can be found here and is accepted on a rolling basis. Before you apply or while your application is being processed, you have the option to try a class.
