The Bridges to the Future Project was launched by UMass Amherst School of Education alumnus and entertainer Bill Cosby as a broad-based effort to revitalize education in rural communities near the university’s campus. Today, this field-based immersion program creates opportunities for new teachers to build comprehensive skills and prepare for Massachusetts Initial Licensure while becoming valuable members of the community in which they teach. Program Details
Prerequisites:
- For middle or high school teachers: B.A. or B.S. in mathematics, English, history, political science, or the sciences or equivalent coursework
Licensure: The program prepares candidates for Massachusetts teacher licensure at the middle or secondary school level in math, English, history or science.
Credits: 36
Fees: The cost of courses is $335 per credit. In addition there is a $45 per term non-refundable registration fee.
Schedule: August to June
Practice component: A year of teaching in the Greenfield, Gill-Montague School, Orange and Mahar public school districts
