Arts Extension Service
Greening Your Nonprofit Arts Organization

The arts have always been on the forefront of change, and never has change been more required than today. Whether an organization needs to cut its facility costs, be first in line for donation dollars, sees greening as part of its mission, wants to serve as a community example and a place from which to learn, or do all of the above, this class is for you.

In this 12-week online course you will learn how to:

  • Get the Board on Board
  • Start a Green Team
  • Determine cost-effective carbon-reducing changes vs 'greenwashing,'
  • Create and implement energy use surveys,
  • Involve and build credibility with audiences,
  • Conduct a cost-benefit analysis,
  • Research and locate energy saving products and services, and more.

Each student will complete the course with a 3-year "Green Plan" tailored to the unique needs of their institution.

Who should enroll? Nonprofit arts managers who:

  • Need to contain costs and want to be first in line for sustainable, green funding,
  • Want to reduce staff sick days and reduce toxin exposure to students and visitors,
  • Want to focus on the unique issues that arts institutions address; from effectively heating large facilities and replacing energy-guzzling gallery lights to substituting toxic art materials or enabling your audiences to carpool to your site.
  • Are ready to go green but simply don't know how!

This step-by-step online course is available either for credit and as a noncredit. Credits earned may be applied to the University Without Walls Arts Management degree completion program. Successful completion of this course will count toward the Arts Management Certificate Program.
