Conservation Law Enforcement/National Park Service Seasonal Law Enforcement Training Program
The nationally respected training program at the University of Massachusetts Amherst is accredited by the National Park Service. Our 400-hour program is taught in person only in Hadley, Mass. All instructors have many years of experience in natural resource law enforcement. More than 625 students have graduated from this program, and many have found employment with NPS: law enforcement: and others were hired as conservation officers at state parks, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the U.S. Forest Service, and with state fish and game departments.
Curriculum: Training Segments are mandatory and must pass each to receive a certificate of completion
- Law Enforcement Patrol Procedures
- Defensive + Pursuit Driving
- Physical Control Tactics
- Physical Detention and Arrest of Subjects
- 40 hrs of Firearms Training @ a Firearms Facility
- Physical Fitness Test (Physical Efficiency Battery)
- Various Field Exercises (held indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions)
- Oleoresin Capsaicin (OC) exposure and training (Pepper Spray)
Cost of program: $3,594 plus $6 registration fee
Class dates for 2012-2013 program: Three (3) full weeks & alternating weekends, all in person, as follows:
Weekends:
September 8-9, 22-23 October 6-7, 20-21 November 3-4, 17-18 December 1-2, 15-16 February 2-3, 16-17 March 2-3, 9-10 April 6-7, 13-14, 20-21, 27-28
Full weeks:
January 7-11 and 14-18 March 18-22
Graduation: April 28
