Join other new UMass Amherst students for this fun three-day orientation on campus, and get the inside scoop on the college experience before your first year begins. Power Up is open only to incoming UMass Amherst freshmen.

Through small group classes and activities — and lots of individual attention — you’ll have a chance to:

• Ask questions about the college experience
• Talk about your concerns in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere
• Develop strategies for studying, note taking, test taking and time management
• Get guidance on choosing courses and majors
• Navigate the campus before classes start
• Find out how to make the most of UMass Amherst resources and opportunities
• Build a network of friends — and move in early! Move into your assigned dorm room Thursday, Sept. 3rd between 4-6:45 p.m.

Faculty

Robert S. Feldman, lead instructor
In addition to his duties as a UMass Amherst professor of psychology and associate dean of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, Robert S. Feldman is the author of P.O.W.E.R. Learning: Strategies for Success in College and Life (McGraw-Hill). A winner of the College Outstanding Teacher Award, Professor Feldman is a nationally known expert in teaching students the skills and strategies that lead to success.

Individual sections of the course will be taught by well-qualified, carefully trained instructors under Professor Feldman’s direct supervision.

Credit: 1 credit

Class fee: $495, receive a $30 discount if register by July 1, 2009. Includes credit, textbook, supplies, t-shirt, one dinner and two breakfasts. Does not include housing cost of $25 per day. Other meals may be taken on campus; you will be billed for them.
