Graduate Students - Visit the Graduate School (Goodell building) and request an appointment to self-register for classes directly via SPIRE. You will be billed by the Bursar's Office for your university classes.
Undergraduate Students (non-degree and those in degree programs offered through C&PE only). University-scheduled classes are offered on a space-available basis.
Students enrolled in a degree program administered through C&PE (e.g. UWW or BGS): You may take any university-scheduled class as long as you meet the prerequisites and other eligibility requirements. To register, contact the C&PE Registration Office at 413-545-3653 or go to 100 Venture Way, Room 238, Hadley. Registration for university-scheduled classes begins on the first day of the C&PE registration period. See the academic calendar for the exact dates.
Students not enrolled in a degree program(non-degree): You may only take university-scheduled classes that are listed as open for non-degree students, except by instructor permission.
- How do I find out which classes are open to non-degree students? A list of classes is posted HERE
on the day before class registration opens for non-degree students (one week before classes start).
- How and when can I register for these classes? Registration for university-scheduled classes open to non-degree students begins one week before classes start. See the academic calendar for exact dates. To register, contact the C&PE Registration Office at 413-545-3653 or go to 100 Venture Way, Room 238, Hadley.
- What about classes that are not open to non-degree students (restricted classes)? Non-degree students must have instructor's permission to take restricted classes. Exception: Instructor permission is not required for MATH & STATISTICS if space is available. To register, complete the Permission Form

UMass Amherst undergraduates - Students who are pursuing a UMass Amherst bachelor’s degree are expected to enroll in regularly scheduled university classes. In order to enroll in university classes through C&PE, you must file and be granted an appeal by the Undergraduate Registrar's office. If the appeal is granted, you will need to withdraw from the university and enroll as a non-degree student. Courses taken as a non-degree student can later be transferred back to your undergraduate degree record. Financial aid is generally not available to non-degree students.
