What is SPIRE? SPIRE is the online University of Massachusetts Student Information System. The SPIRE Web site gives you direct secure access to administrative data such as class schedules, grades, billing information and financial aid status. You can also use SPIRE to print out unofficial transcripts.
How do I get to SPIRE? SPIRE is located at www.spire.umass.edu.
Who can use SPIRE? Anyone can use SPIRE to make inquiries and search the catalog for classes. However, SPIRE Student Services are available only to students with “active” records in the university student database. This includes all currently registered students, as well as students who’ve recently withdrawn or graduated. All students registered for UMass Amherst Continuing & Professional Education (CPE) credit classes or non-credit online classes are given access to SPIRE.
How do I access SPIRE? To access SPIRE Student Services, you need a valid student username and password. You can access SPIRE using the same username (NetID) and password that you use for your UMass email account (UMail).
I’m a new student. How do I find out my NetID, password and SPIRE ID? After your registration is added to the university student system two emails will be sent to you with your NetID, a temporary password and your SPIRE student number. The information will be sent to the email address that you provided when you registered. You will need to activate your UMail account when you get this information.
What is the difference between my NetID and my SPIRE ID? Your NetID is a username that allows you access to UMail, SPIRE and other OIT account offerings. It remains active and useable while you are enrolled at the university. Your SPIRE ID (student number) is a unique identifier that will remain on your record even after you are no longer an active student. This is the number that administrative offices, such as CPE Records & Registration office, will need you to provide in order to process registrations and other administrative data.
