How to Enroll

This course is designed to have in-service and pre-service teachers gain hands-on knowledge of the Earth as a system.  Topics will focus on the interactions among the atmosphere, water (hydrosphere), soils and rocks (lithosphere), and the biosphere.  These will include: the causes and effects of acid rain; the water cycle; plate tectonics, volcanoes and earthquakes; ocean circulation and climate change; solar energy and ozone.  Exploration of these topics will be guided by the state curriculum frameworks and the National Science Education Standards, and they will be facilitated by threaded discussions, at-home experiments involving team collaborations, and analyzing data on the internet.  Prerequisites:  Must be currently teaching science at K-12 level or enrolled in a teacher preparation program.  Must have taken a previous science course or have permission of the instructor. Open to EDUC Secondary Teach Ed - Science OCAM students only.
